The Centre for Research on Islamic and Malay Affairs (RIMA) is looking to employ suitably qualified candidates who are capable of working with our present team to assume the following positions:


Research Analyst

Job Responsibilities

  • Produce quality research on specific topic(s) assigned by the Board
  • Analyse data and provide write-up
  • Present complex information effectively to a range of audiences
  • Oversee contents, editing and publishing of publications both in print and electronic media
  • Draft proposals and provide links for research grants/funding and applications
  • Review RIMA’s research output and make recommendations to the Board
  • Publish article / opinion pieces on relevant issues affecting the Malay/ Muslim community
  • Organise events and conduct fieldwork
  • Establish network within the Malay establishments as well as the mainstream institutions

Job Requirements

  • Entry level candidates with a degree in social science or other relevant disciplines
  • Those with some research work experience and higher qualification would be considered for higher position
  • Knowledge of research techniques and methodologies
  • Experience in organizing seminars and conferences
  • Experience in editorial work and overseeing publications
  • Proficiency in English and Malay and another relevant language will be an added advantage – (in order to handle concerns and feedbacks from English, Malay and another relevant language speaking counterparts in regards with the contents, editing and publishing matters.)
  • Strong networking capacity would be an added advantage
  • Awareness of the dynamic of the Malay Muslim community be an added advantage

Research Assistant, Part-time contract (Dec 2021- Jan 2023)

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection:
    i) Note-taking and transcribing for focus-groups, roundtable discussions, forums or any events
    ii) Conducting primary and secondary research
    iii) Aggregating deliberations, synthesising discussions well in reports
  • Conduct literature reviews of assigned topics
  • Managing and storage of data (both primary and secondary data) in an organised fashion and presenting them in a neat and comprehensible manner
  • Assist in preliminary analysis of data collected
  • Present project information to communicate research findings
  • Working with research staff to prepare research materials for publication purposes
  • Write and contribute to publication
  • Attend convention-related meetings and events as and when required
  • Advise on recent and emerging trends
  • Assist with any ad hoc work which may arise

Job Requirements

  • Adult learners currently pursuing undergraduate/post-graduate programme in the field of sociology
  • Research freelancers
  • Able to work both independently and in a team
  • Familiar in the field of Malay/Muslim studies
  • Able to capture points and aggregate deliberations/ discussions effectively in a report in good English, synthesise information and summarise succinctly
  • Report writing skills
  • Fast and accurate typing skills (for note-taking and transcribing)
  • Familiar with qualitative research
